DESCRIPTION

A special thematic Symposia in Technical and Natural Sciences: Data Science and Geographic Information Systems is an international forum for scientists, engineers, and students to present their latest research and development results in innovative and interdisciplinary applications of advanced technologies.

In the field of Data Science, we solicit contributions both in fundamentals (machine/deep learning, data science statistics, data quality, algorithms, optimization …) as well as applications (domain-driven data science and analytics practice, decision-making, case studies, social and economic impact modeling as well as ethics, social issues, privacy, trust, and bias)

Also, experts like geospatial data analysts, geospatial intelligence analysts, market research analysts, GIS analysts, locational analysts, and research data scientists are invited to share their findings.

With the new categories of users such as Data Scientists, GIS is starting to happen more outside of traditional GIS tools, allowing more sophisticated spatial analysis to take place in connection with new Data Science & Big Data solutions. This shift is allowing Spatial Data Science to emerge as a discipline with greater interactivity with Open Source & Cloud technologies.

Spatial Data Science (SDS) is a subset of Data Science that focuses on the unique characteristics of spatial data, moving beyond simply looking at where things happen to understand why they happen there.

SPECIAL EVENTS

1. Roundtable “Code of Ethics”

Chair:

doc.dr. Venera Simonovović

Location:

Hotel Hills

DESCRIPTION

Bosnia and Herzegovina is the only country in the region that does not have an organized Chamber of Engineers, and therefore no Code of Ethics for that chamber. The House of Peoples of the FBiH reached a conclusion on the necessity of forming and passing the Law on the Engineering Chamber of the FBiH, which would make it operational and thus the Ethics Committee that would regulate violations of duty, professional standards and reputation as well as ethical norms. This is an area that FBiH engineers will be familiar with and will be obliged to comply with, therefore it is important to familiarize them with the categorization of injuries (lighter and more severe), the procedure before the Ethics Committee as well as the disciplinary measures that may be imposed.

2. Workshop “Safety at work in construction”

Chair:

Assoc. Dr. Venera Simonovović, Civil Engineering

Co-chair:

Prof. dr. Naida Ademović

Location:

Hotel Hills

DESCRIPTION

The importance of implementing safety and health at work through the management of the company, directors, health workers and employees. Annual safety goals and planned annual budget for safety. Training of workers, transfer of information, instructions, TBT (toolbox talk) topics for meetings. Reporting an injury at work and the role of the occupational safety engineer as a responsible person.

3. Workshop “Mathematics and Democracy”

(co- organised with The Institute for Mathematics and Democracy https://mathematics-democracy-institute.org/ )

Chairs:

Dženeta Ajanić, Second Gymnasium Sarajevo and Ismar Volić, Wellesley College Boston

Date:

June 22, 2024

Location:

Second Gimnasium Sarajevo

DESCRIPTION

The workshop is a one-day non-formal education training intended for mathematics teachers in secondary schools in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and was born out of the need to connect the teaching of mathematics with real life.

Applications are open until May 20, 2024. The number of workshop participants is limited.
